THE LOCAL TRAINING PROGRAM

If you're unable to attend any of our On-Campus Seminars, then the Local Training Program, (LTP) is for you. The LTP allows you to receive your Hands On training from a licensed, qualified practitioner who lives in or near your community. Your instructor must meet specific MIM requirements and be acknowledged by MIM.

LTP Requirements

  • Work a minimum of 20 hours per week as a massage therapist
  • Current membership in a professional association. (ABMP, AMTA, IMA)
  • Current license in massage therapy (If required by the state)
  • Provide proof of malpractice insurance
  • Current business license, if required by your state.
  • Adequate space for training/learning
  • Documentation of education and training in massage
  • Submit personal and professional references

LTP consists of 50 hours up to 300 hours of supervised training. A good LT demonstrates more than Swedish Massage or his or her specialty. A variety of modalities need to be covered for your graduation certificate. Have your LT contact MIM for a complete listing of necessary subjects to complete your hours. Three hundred hours of Swedish Massage alone does not qualify for the entire 300 hours Hands-On training.

With this program, you need not leave your area for the Hands-On training. In addition to the MIM tuition, students need to be aware they need to negotiate with the LT for local training fees.

Contact MIM for more information on the LTP. Many years and much effort have gone in to developing the LTP to serve the students with the best training available. Students have the option of selecting their trainer. MIM does reserve the right to validate that the instructor selected possesses the necessary credentials. The person you select must go through an acknowledgment process with MIM. We recommend a written agreement between the student and the LT with a copy sent to Student Services.

NOTE: Utah residents are not eligible for the LTP. Utah enacted separate apprenticeship laws. Please check with your local area for possible special apprenticeship regulations which may prohibit the LTP.
